The Circuit Clerk and Recorder is the clerk of the civil, domestic relations, criminal and juvenile courts and also acts as the ex-officio recorder for the county.
Duties of the Circuit Clerk:
- Maintain a record of all proceedings of the civil, domestic relations, criminal and juvenile courts
- Prepare the dockets for these courts
- Prepare summons, warrants, orders, judgments and injunctions authorized by the circuit, domestic relations and juvenile court for delivery by the county sheriff
- Record all real estate documents (Any conveyance that affects the title to lands within the county is recorded here)
- Records all liens (ex: materialmans, mechanics & laborers liens), state and federal tax liens, judgments of all kinds, and bonds (ex: notary, public official bonds & deputations)
- Assists in the courtroom and is responsible for the jury selection process mandated by the courts
